Steamer Trunk

The steamer trunk is a very nice project made from red oak wood and finished with  urethane. The dark trim is walnut wood to simulate belts to help hold the lid down like  they used on steamer trunks years ago. All the joints and panels are tongue and grove, and the screws are hidden with wooden plugs.

Even though I built it by plans from Rockler, the project required thought and planning to join the trunk parts together. My age sometimes makes thinking difficult. Rockler has a hardware kit available that I recommend be purchased with the plans. I don't think you could buy the fittings anywhere for less. The top of the trunk is interesting to build; the frame and panels are assembled with glued and clamped together.

If you want to make your wife happy, built her a beautiful steamer trunk.
