Powered by a 5-1/2
hp
Briggs & Stratton
engine, this little buckboard rips around
the neighborhood at 18 mph. It utilizes a Comet torque
converter variable speed transmission. For reverse, your left
leg is put to use! Accelerates up a 6% grade with a 450 lb
payload!
This was one of the best, most enjoyable, projects I have ever done. An excellent set of plans for only $20 from Small Car Plans were very detailed. In comparison to some other ventures I have done, the plans were worth more. I chose to construct the floor of oak with a clear finish rather than 3/4" plywood with cut grooves to resemble 1" X 4's". My seat is made of 3/4" plywood with a light tan latex finish. Beneath the seat is a welcomed storage space. The 26" garden cart wheels could be a type of more strength. Construction involves a good bit sawing and drilling metal. Even my hobby metal late came in handy. Very little welding or none at all if you purchase ready made parts. My steering wheel, I scrounged from a wrecked fishing boat. Luckily found a upholstery shop to covered my seat....they used a tough polyester material. If your interested in a project to ride your grandchildren around the neighborhood this is a fun one. As a matter of fact it's fun to ride in local parades. Notice under the seat of the first picture is a red Ahaaaooooga horn. It also attracts a lot of attention.
The Buckboard is for sale at a very reasonable price of $1,695.00, picked up by buyer.
