Brad named this bicycle, "Chopper
Overkill". Wonder why?
This Chopper was also built from his plans. I had a ball building it. The rear wheel and tire came from a Chevy pickup found at an auto wrecking yard for $15.00. As per plans you must remove the middle of the wheel leaving only the rim. A hammer and chisel did a quick job of that. The trick comes from making the axle, drilling the spoke holes, then lacing the wheel. The frame is fabricated of 1-1/4" EMT conduit while other parts came from donor bicycles. Learning to turn the Chopper was a bit tricky, as was holding it straight on a crowned road. The rear tire has a more flat surface than a bike tire, therefore you must lean hard into the direction of the turn. SOLD
If you want some fun, build one and ride it!
This recumbent was built from plans purchased from Brad Graham. He does an excellent job producing all his bike drawings. The DeltaWolf, as this recumbent is called, was not an easy project to complete. Also, another new challenge for me was lacing the rear wheels, and building the frame requires a lot of welding and metal fabricating. Ninety percent of the parts came from three used bicycles that I scrounged up. The inner frame or form of the seat was made from an old office chair whereas an upholstery shop covered it for me. The fenders were constructed from 26 gauge galvanized sheet metal. The DeltaWolf is great fun and fast to ride, even though I just don't have the wind for the uphill grind to go very far. If you want a recumbent and interested in building your own, this just could be it. It's fun to build. All you need is a welder, offset grinder and a few hand tools. Some builders form out the rear wheels to a bike shop. The challenge is part of the fun. The photo was shot by my daughter, "Lisa G Photography," in North Little Rock, Arkansas. FOR SALE $595.00 - Picked up by buyer.
